Red Bull Big Tune National Finals Tonight at Metro

By Jake Guidry in Arts & Entertainment on Nov 18, 2010 8:00PM

2010-finals-6.jpg For weeks now some of the world's top producers have been going head to head with their best productions at the roving Red Bull Big Tune competition. Competitions were held all over the country, including Minneapolis, Detroit and St. Louis, and now the finalists will converge at Metro tonight for the battle for a national champion. In short, this is the spot to be tonight to see some of the brightest futures in music production.

The Big Tune competition format is akin to a rap battle: in a bracket-style tournament, producers will go head-to-head and DJ their own tunes on CDJs and a mixer. The winner is decided by crowd reaction. A simple, pretty fair method for determining who the ultimate winner will be. So far the competitions have been fierce and exciting; J Dilla is very much alive according to what's transpired so far. Considering the level of competition that's existed at the satellite events, tonight's finals will surely unleash some of the best unheard hip-hop beats in the world.
