Mannequin Men Revving Back Into Action

After a bit of time away from the local music scene, skuzzy garage-rockers Mannequin Men are releasing new material.

Along with a new 7-inch, which will be available for purchase at the veteran quartet’s Dec. 4th show at Schubas, the group posted a new demo, "Don’t Grow",which you can snag below.

Demos are often rough and unpolished, but for Mannequin Men, that’s an advantage, not a detriment. Simply stated, the cruder, the better, and “Don’t Grow” has enough raw guitar power to make Iggy Pop blush. But rather than be a Stooges-esque romper, “Don’t Grow” finds its mid-tempo strut and tossed-off, two-chord vamp more in line with both classic rude boys like The Rolling Stones and local garage contemporaries like Disappears.

While we hope that “Don’t Grow” is a sign of a new album to come (should they find a label to put it out), we also hope that they don’t add a touch of studio magic. Why mess with basic, loud perfection? Oh, and that single, which is coming out on Hozac? Mannequin Men were kind enough to also post jangly, Replacements-aping A-side “Hobby Girl” on their Soundcloud page as well.
