Lunch for Two Under $15 - Salad Mix in Lincoln Park

Salad Mix has had their fair share of legal drama over the last year, but the salad and soup shop in Lincoln Park continues to hang on and churn out gigantic, lunch-friendly bowls of greens.

Still referred to on Yelp by its original name, Lettuce Mix, this little lunch stop attracted the attention of Chicago giant Lettuce Entertain You Enterprises, Inc in 2009. LEYE filed a lawsuit against Lettuce Mix and owner Sean Tehrani for trademark infringement, asserting that the use of the term “lettuce” as a pun for “let us” caused confusion. LEYE sought to force Lettuce Mix to change its name.

Is it ridiculous? Maybe, but for the time being you can capitalize on the naming debacle and find lunch for two for under $15 at this normally-overpriced lunch spot in Lincoln Park.

Salad Mix is offering a $2-off coupon if you suggest a new name for their salad bar. The coupon only works on salads, which range between $8 and $11, but the portions are definitely in proportion to the price. According to the Salad Mix website, the coupon deal is going on until they find a new name. And - bonus! If you suggest the winning name, you get a $1000 gift card, which calculates out to, um, a lot of salad.

For lunch for two, we shared a gargantuan Sonoma Salad (mixed greens, mandarin orange, avocado, pear, mango, toasted pecan, raspberry dressing, goat cheese) and a cup of the Honey Roasted Butternut Squash with Green Apple soup. The salad was good although a little lettuce-heavy, and a few of the ingredients were obviously out of a can (we're looking at you, mandarin oranges and pears.) One salad is large enough for two to share, and the cup of soup makes it a rounded lunch. With the $2-off coupon, it squeaks just below the $15 mark.

Also worth trying is the make-your-own salad option - Salad Mix features an entire bar of fresh ingredients and a variety of dressings to suit your fancy.
