Author Disputes Capone's Involvement in St. Valentine's Day Massacre

2010_11_23_massacre.jpg It's long been assumed that Al Capone had something to do with the St. Valentine's Day Massacre, which has been often cited as a prime example of the feud between Capone's crew and bugs Malone's gang.

But author Jonathan Eig, who wrote Get Capone: The Secret Plot that Captured America's Most Wanted Gangster, has his own theory. Eig doubts that Capone had anything to do with the massacre:

"He was a gregarious guy. He was not the kind of person that people feared instantly upon meeting him,"Eig says. "He was quick with a joke. This is why he was successful in the bar business. Because people actually like his company."

Eig characterized Capone as a two-bit thug who had a great personality. BY the way, pick up the book. It's a very good read.
