Publisher CQ Press released its list of the most dangerous cities in America and — shock of shocks — Chicago is nowhere to be found on the list. We had to double check that list ourselves. Surely, Police Superintendent Jody Weis, if he's aware of the list, is saying "I told you so" right now.

The Midwest is well-represented, however. St. Louis tops the list, with Detroit third, Flint, MI fourth, and Gary coming in at number 9. Factors in the rankings include include rates of murder, rape, robbery, aggravated assault, burglary and motor vehicle theft. The list has been called into question for its accuracy. The U.S. Conference of Mayors criticized the list as a "premeditated statistical mugging of America's cities," while the FBI warned it could "create misleading perceptions."

We question it solely because Chicago's not on the list.
