Chicagoist's "Beer of the Week:" Rogue Double Mocha Porter

As we mentioned earlier today, we've been tearing into a significant amount of our beer library the past couple of days to make room for some new additions (like the Goose Island BCS Rare) and found a lot of stouts, heavy ales and porters ready for the drinking. Example, last night we broke out a 2010 Dark Lord and a 2009 Flossmoor Station Wooden Hell for an evening meetup with friends.
We saved this bottle of Rogue Double Mocha Porter for ourselves. The ingredient list is extensive. Malts include C120, C150, Kiln Coffee, Black, Chocolate and Rogue Micro Barley Farm Riskā¢. Summit and Rogue Micro Hopyard Willamette hops are added for spicing and aromatics, while Rogue's Pacman Yeast and Free Range Coastal Water round out the list. The final product weighs in at 19° Plato and 78 IBU (Bitterness Units). Those Summit hops do make for a nice bitter porter, which blend well with the chocolate and coffee to give the beer its name. It's like drinking a very weighty espresso. On a day like this, we wished we had waited to crack open the bottle.
Given the flavors, Rogue Double Mocha Porter would naturally make a wonderful dessert beer. It would also go well with hearty beef dishes, maybe a beef stew, chilis, more savory phos.
