Last Minute Plans: A Tribute To Kate Bush

By Kim Bellware in Arts & Entertainment on Nov 30, 2010 9:20PM

2010_11_KateBush.jpg Proving that quirky complexity and popular success don't have to be mutually exclusive, Kate Bush's theatrical and intense brand of rock has been influential to a range of artists, from Fever Ray to Andre 3000.

Yet despite Bush's influence, tributes to influential artists are usually kept to the same several familiar names--Madonna, Michael Jackson, David Bowie--making tonight's tribute to the experimental music legend much-welcomed and long overdue. In celebration of Bush and her work, Avondale's Late Bar is playing host to a special Kate Bush tribute, complete with drag performances in homage to Bush, as well as a steady loop of her bizarro music videos.

Organized by a group of Chicago-based Kate Bush enthusiasts (including erstwhile Chicagoister Joe Erbentraut), the event aims to entertain fans as much as it celebrates Bush's aesthetic. In addition to the drag performances and videos, entertainment will feature a handful of DJ sets from Procession and Bittersweet and plenty of requisite Kate Bush listening. The event will be a one-off tribute though organizers hope to turn it into a monthly party. Like Bush herself, this party should be special and entirely one-of-a-kind.

A Tribute To Kate Bush is tonight, November 30, at Late Bar, 3534 W Belmont, 10 p.m. to 4 a.m., 21+, free
