Oprah Eying Movies Again

By Chuck Sudo in Arts & Entertainment on Dec 8, 2010 8:45PM

You're the richest woman on the planet, ending a talk show run of 25 years to start your own network (which in itself is a daunting task) and you just told ABC's real life Skeletor, Barbara Walters that you're "not even kind of a lesbian" to refute rumors that you and your best friend are just that. What would you do next?

If you're Oprah Winfrey, you look at getting back into films. Harpo Productions and HBO Films are in talks to film a movie adaptation of the Pulitzer Prize-winning play Ruined.

The story follows the efforts of Mama Nadi, a madame at a Congolese whorehouse, as she tries to keep her and her women out of trouble from government and rebel authorities. Winfrey and Kate Forte are listed as executive producers, with Winfrey set to star as Mama Nadi. Lynn Nottage, author of the play, is reportedly working on the screenplay.
