More Turning to Online Options For Holiday Greetings

2010_12_9_card.jpg Admit it. You've probably sent out a mass e-mail, made a facebook update, tweeted or sent an e-holiday card. It's not uncommon these days. A research firm said that Christmas card sales declined 0.4 percent last year. It may not seem like a slight dropoff, but the research firm Mintel Evidence group says that it's part of growing evidence that the next generation will not be heading out to buy cards and stamps.

Sounds a bit hyperbolic until you read this quote from 30-year-old Erika Maschmeyer, who said she only sent out Christmas cards once in her life.

"There are so many other ways to keep in touch," Maschmeyer said. "I stay in touch with e-mail and Facebook. It's an easy way to quickly see what people are doing."

The percentage of consumers buying Christmas cards has dropped from 77 percent in 2005 to 62 percent last year. But we're thankful for those who did send out cards.

Thank you for the card, Rachelle.
