Quinn to End Put Illinois to Work

By Chuck Sudo in News on Dec 13, 2010 2:18PM

Gov. Quinn made his Put Illinois to Work program a focal point of his election campaign. Faced with hard numbers of its success, Quinn now said that he'll end the program in mid-January.

The program, a temporary employment program which matched workers with small businesses, eventually wound up employing less than ten percent of the people who enrolled in the program. Quinn kept the program afloat by funding it with $122 million in taxpayer money, despite the small return on the investment.

Quinn now will focus on passing legislation that will give small businesses incentives to hire new workers.
