Countdown to Rahmageddon: Taking the Stand
By Chuck Sudo in News on Dec 14, 2010 3:00PM
Today is the day where Rahm Emanuel takes the stand in his residency challenge to defend the bona fides he provided that he feels proves he is a Chicago resident and, therefore, qualified to run for Mayor under the letter of the law. While most of us are hoping for one of those classic Emanuel flares of temper, it'll most likely wind up being, for the most part, a standard legal proceeding. No "you can't handle the truth" outbursts here.
Sun-Times reporter Abdon M. Pallasch breaks down the arguments for and against Emanuel's residency here. Read on and you'll find that the challenge is a matter of how the state election law is being interpreted. Odelson and the other challengers are hoping for a strict adherence to the law, while Emanuel is hoping for wiggle room based on a "government service" exemption and his tax records.
It should make for a good show as we await updates throughout the day.
