It seems Netherfriends are inexhaustible. The local psych pop act just returned home from touring the East Coast and Midwest and is already hitting the stage hard in Chicago. They performed at Viaduct Theater last night, but if you didn’t make that show, no biggie, because they have a handful of more intimate shows lined up for the near future.

Tomorrow, lead man Shawn Rosenblatt will play a free solo set at Corepower Yoga in Bucktown, though anyone interested in attending should contact the studio and may actually have to do yoga. He’ll play another free solo set this Friday at Café Mustache with accompanying acts Red Electric Rainbow, Esoteric Tapioca, and The Singleman Affair. The band also has two shows planned for early January at the Whistler and Subterranean, and there’s a good chance more will be scheduled. Check out Netherfriends’ blog for show updates and a defense by Rosenblatt outlining his dislike for New York City.

And if you haven’t seen it yet, check out their music video for "Bret Easton Ellis Novel," the opening track of its latest full-length, Barry and Sherry. The video’s been floating around the Internet since June, but the band revived it yesterday by finally posting it on YouTube. Rosenblatt made the stop motion video in collaboration with Heartichoke, photographing material every day for a month with a cheap digital camera. It’s solid proof that even unfurling toilet paper and rearranging furniture are more interesting in stop motion. Plus, for a split second you can see who we assume is Rosenblatt using a microwave in his underwear.
