One for the Road: Chicago Children's Choir

A recent discussion among the Chicagoist staff revealed one thing in which most of us are in agreement. We can't stand "Glee." If we were forced to watch "Glee" at gunpoint, we'd switch the channel to "NCIS," then take the bullet.

So why did we choose to highlight the Chicago Children's Choir this afternoon? Maybe because, 54 years after its founding, it still brings together talented children from all over the city to fulfill the mission statement of the late Christopher Moore that, if a multicultural group of kids can make music together, they can find further common ground.

Here's an example. This is a CCChoir performance from June, a tribute to Michael Jackson that's simple in its choreography and musical arrangement. There is a rough spot around the three-minute mark where a boy gets all Peter Brady singing lead on the Jackson 5's "I Want You Back." But who among us hasn't been sandbagged by puberty?
