Wal-Mart Supporting Alderman, Wal-Mart Opponent Make Nice

Interesting little note from former Chicagoisto Hunter Clauss over at Chicago News Co-Op about how veteran political consultant Delmarie Cobb is endorsing 9th Ward Alderman Anthony Beale for reelection, despite their diametrically opposite views about having a Wal-Mart in the Roseland neighborhood.

Cobb told Clauss of that she still felt Beale had the best interests of the 9th Ward in mind, despite their difference in opinion on Wal-Mart. Cobb, a longtime supporter of Beale, broke with him earlier this year to organize a group of community and labor groups to pressure Wal-Mart into offering a starting wage of $11.03 an hour.
“One of the things Roland Burris said years ago to me that I came to agree with as I got older: If you agree with an elected official or candidate on 7 out of 10 things, then you can find common ground,” said Ms. Cobb, referring to the former senator, who once was one of her clients.
