One for the Road: The Pharaohs

By Chuck Sudo in Arts & Entertainment on Dec 20, 2010 10:30PM

The Pharaohs were one of the forgotten treasures of local R&B. A merger of the Jazzmen, a student group formed at Crane Junior College, and the Artistic Heritage Ensemble, the Pharaohs' lineup included noted session horn player Don Myrick, former Chess session musicians Louis Satterfield, Charles Handy and Maurice White. White would later go on to find greater success as the founder of Earth, Wind & Fire.

The Foundation for EW&F's success started with the afrocentric attire and funk of the Pharaohs.
