Morning Box Score: Turco, Hawks stay Sharp; Bulls win in OT

By Angie Wiatrowski in News on Dec 27, 2010 3:30PM

Hawks 4, Blue Jackets 1

In his first start since Dec. 13, Blackhawks goaltender Marty Turco reminded Chicago why the Blackhawks signed him. Turco made 26 saves to lead the Blackhawks to a 4-1 victory over the Columbus Blue Jackets for their fourth straight win.

Turco was robbed of his second shutout this season after Derrick Brassard scored on a screened power-play goal in the third period, but earned his first win since Nov. 17.

Turco had some help with Tomas Kopecky and Dave Bolland scoring and Patrick Sharp scoring twice. Sharp's second goal of the game is his team-leading 20th goal.

In his return after missing 10 games, Marian Hossa assisted the Hawks' first two goals. Hossa set up Kopecky's goal 7 minutes into the first period.

The Hawks will again be without Patrick Kane who was placed on injured reserve Sunday. He missed his eighth game with an ankle injury.

Bulls 95, Pistons 92

Carlos Boozer was on top of the scoreboard again for the Bulls as they beat the Pistons 95-92 in overtime Sunday night. Boozer had 31 points and 11 rebounds by the end of the game and Derrick Rose had 23 points, 8 assists and a career-high 12 rebounds.

The Bulls only shot 36 percent in the first half and missed 6 of 14 free throws. Thanks to a dominant performance on the boards they led 40-34 and out-rebounded Detroit 31-16 in the half.

The Bulls had a little extra bench help as after sustaining a concussion on Dec. 18 vs. the Clippers, Taj Gibson played 30 minutes tallying 5 points and 9 rebounds. He had only played 14 minutes in three games since the injury.

The Bulls will return home and host the Milwaukee Bucks Tuesday.
