Funeral for Firefighter Brings Out Department

2010_12_28_stringer.jpg Edward Stringer, one of the two firefighters killed battling a blaze on the South Side last week, will be buried today. In a fitting sendoff, Stringer's casket was carried from a funeral home in Oak Lawn to St. Rita of Cascia Church on the South Side on the back of a fire truck.

Stringer's body will be laid to rest at Beverly Cemetery in Blue Island. Among those delivering eulogies at Stringer's funeral are Mayor Daley, Fire Commissioner Robert Hoff, Fire Department Chaplain Thomas Mulcrone and firefighters union local president Thomas Ryan.
