Last-Minute Plans: Alex Chilton Birthday Bash at Empty Bottle

By Chuck Sudo in Arts & Entertainment on Dec 28, 2010 7:20PM

2010-12_28_Chilton.jpg Today would have been Alex Chilton's 60th birthday. By the time the legendary founder of Big Star (the band) passed away in March, Chilton's influence extended across two generations of power-pop groups around the world.

Poet and musician Larry O. Dean has been producing a birthday celebration for Memphis's native son since 2005 that has attracted over the years such acts as Daemon Familiar, Dolly Varden, For All the Sweet Children, Good Apples, Certain Stars and Doleful Lions. This year's edition will feature The Benders, FM Towns, Go Time!, The Injured Parties, The IRAS, Todd Leiter-Weintraub, Letterbomb, My Damn Butterfly and Scott Schaafsma.

The cover for this tribute to Chilton is $8 at the door, which is a steal. Showtime starts at 8 p.m.
