Cubs Acquire Pitcher Matt Garza

Multiple reports are confirming the Cubs have acquired Tampa Bay Rays pitcher Matt Garza for a boatload of prospects. Tampa Bay gets in return for Garza pitcher Chris Archer, shortstop Hak-Ju Lee, outfielder Brandon Guyer, catcher Robinson Chirinos and outfielder Sam Fuld. Coming the Cubs way in addition to Garza are minor league outfielder Fernando Perez and a player to be named later.

Garza was a 15-game winner with the Rays last season and was the MVP of the 2008 AL Championship Series. Only 27, if the Cubs can re-sign Garza at the end of the season, he can be a cornerstone to a possible rebuilding plan. If not, then it's an indication that the Cubs feel they have the talent to try to make a run for the NL Central title now.
