Finding Humor in the Countdown to Rahmageddon

By Chuck Sudo in News on Jan 10, 2011 5:20PM

2010_11_23_ed_bus.jpg We know that the "Mayor Emanuel" twitter feed is a hit with locals. But what does the Rahmformer think of it? “I think it's hilarious,” Rahm Emanuel told Crain's Shia Kapos, noting that his staff follows the account.

Emanuel's take on his doppelganger's Twitter feed is only a part of Kapos's article about how this mayoral campaign seems to have a little bit of a sense of humor behind it, which she surmises is a result of Mayor Daley (who isn't necessarily known for being able to laugh at himself or others) and his decision to not run. As other examples of humor in the campaign, Kapos cites "53rd Ward Alderman Ed Bus," a character from Schadenfreude ensemble member and WBEZ's Justin Kaufmann, and a youtube video supporting Carol Moseley Braun titled "It's Just Poop." The folks Kapos interviewed for her article all agreed that there are some astute political observations behind the satire, but that cartoonists and pundits haven't even begun to scratch the surface.

(Disclosure: Kapos interviewed me for the article, hoping to discover the identity behind the "Mayor Emanuel" twitter feed. I informed her that I was not, and our conversation was not used for the final piece. Besides, I'm not that poetic with my profanity)
