By Chuck Sudo in News on Jan 12, 2011 3:45PM

Penn St. 57, Illinois 55: Seem like, in recent years, Illinois manages to lay an egg against Penn St. just as they're charting an upward trajectory in the national rankings. The 16th-ranked Illini never could break away from the Nittany Lions last night. Then a putback by Penn State's Andrew Jones with a second left in the game sealed the win for the Nittany Lions in State College, PA. The loss was the Illini's first in Big Ten play, while Penn St. earned a measure of respect with the victory. Mike tisdale led Illinois with 16 points and 14 rebounds.

Northern Illinois 71, Eastern Michigan 69: The Huskies held off a strong second half comeback by Eastern Michigan to earn its first win in MAC conference play. Xavier Silas scored 31 points to lead the Huskies.
