Mayor Daley to Keep Jody Weis Until May

Police Superintendent Jody Weis doesn't seem like he has tons of friends, but it's good that the one friend he does have is the Mayor of Chicago: although Weis' contract ends in March, Mayor Daley announced that he would be keeping Weis as the Superintendent until mid-May when Daley's own term in office is up.
In addition to saying that it doesn't make a whole lot of sense to appoint an interim police superintendent for two months, Daley seems to genuinely believe that Weis has done a great job while he's been the superintendent and is keeping up the good work:
"The superintendent's been very good," Daley said. "We had headlines - remember when you used to write about the headlines? Brutality, and what's taken place, they're loose! And he brought that all back. We have a good police department. [The] murder rate is lowest since 1965. He's been a good, honest public official."
Moreover, Daley defends Weis against those who accuse Weis of being unable to perform the best of his abilities because he isn't "one of us." We suppose two more months might not make a significant difference, but it looks like Weis will not be asked to stay after his extended contract expires in May.
