Looks like the scrimmage to pick up mayoral endorsements among the major candidates to replace Mayor Daley is picking up steam. Shortly after Rahm Emanuel picked up the endorsement of former President Bill Clinton, Gery Chico was endorsed by the Fraternal Order of Police.

FOP President Bill Donahue will hold a news conference this afternoon to make the endorsement official. The endorsement also gives the Chico campaign a major shot in the arm. Chico, Emanuel, Carol Moseley Braun and Miguel del Valle have all actively pursued organized labor endorsements in the campaign. But until the FOP endorsement, major labor unions have refrained from backing a mayoral candidate. The Chicago Federation of Labor and the Service Employees International Union have not offered endorsements for mayor. A poll from Teamsters Local 700 showed that a majority of their rank-and-file support Emanuel. Teamsters officials said they would take the poll results into account when they announce their endorsements
