Try Produce Delivery from Door to Door Organics

DoortoDoorLogo.jpg We love CSAs and farm shares, but sometimes they can be a bit hard to manage. If you don't eat enough produce fast enough or if you are gone for weeks at a time on business, a farm share can pile up and rot in your refrigerator or be hard to get delivered at all. If you are looking for a convenient, flexible way to get organic produce delivered right to your door, for a reasonable price, try Door-to-Door Organics, which started operations in Chicago in October. Even better, as a special gift to Chicagoist readers, after the jump you can find a discount code good for 40% off.

There are a ton of variables to consider when chosing a produce delivery service: price, delivery options, box sizes and exactly what you want. We have profiled other Chicago produce services and CSAs, and used some of them ourselves. For our kitchen, our favorite delivery option is still Irv and Shelly's Fresh Picks, but we were impressed by the quality of Door-to-Door's offerings. Door-to-Door Organics is a good option for people who like free, flexible delivery and an all-organic selection of produce. You won't have to return crates (as you do with Fresh Picks), delivery is free and Door to Door offers more delivery options. Their produce isn't always local, especially in the winter, but Door-to-Door has made the decision that buying certified organic is the highest priority for them. In the summers to come, they plan to offer all-local boxes, but during Chicago winters, Door-to-Door will be focused on getting fresh, organic produce to customers.

If that's what you are looking for, there are several options to choose from. We got a "Bitty Box," the smallest option, priced normally at $26.99, and it contained a wide variety of fruits and vegetables. This week's box has yams, onions, broccoli, peppers, mushrooms, pears, apples, oranges and an avocado. A produce delivery service is a great way to get a wider variety of fruits and vegetables into your diet, since you aren't quite sure from week to week what you are going to get. Even better, for Chicagoist readers, they are offering 40% of the price of a Bitty Box. Just use the code Chicagoist2011 at checkout, and enjoy your healthy eating!
