Another Chicago Magazine Celebrates The Chicago Issue

By Betsy Mikel in Arts & Entertainment on Jan 21, 2011 6:20PM

2011_01StopSmiling.jpg Another Chicago Magazine seeks to publish writers who have been neglected or undiscovered in mainstream publications and they’re celebrating their 50th issue and 33rd anniversary tonight. ACM is also dedicated to featuring Illinois-based writers and artists. Back when the magazine was introduced in 1977, it was a collection of poetry produced by members of a poetry workshop taught at the University of Illinois-Chicago. The magazine has since broadened its scope both content-wise and in its design.

This issue is dedicated to Chicago, aptly titled Another Chicago Issue. “To be perfectly honest, we never thought we’d make it to a 50th issue,” their website says. “ACM has never been known for fundraising skills, financial acumen, or an airtight organizational structure.” But they have made it, and the editors have collected such a sprawling collection of work from Chicago writers, that issue 50 is split up into two issues. This first volume contains a selection of writers from different backgrounds and styles, including novels, poets, writers with agents and writers without.

If you’d like to join in the celebration, come to their release party tonight. Or, buy the issue.
