Anne Burke: "I Can Think For Myself"

2011_1_26_Anne_burke.jpg Illinois Supreme Court Justice Anne Burke, who's been the subject of some media scrutiny since Monday's Rahm Toss, spoke with Crain's Chicago Business' Shia Kapos this morning about the perception of a conflict of interest in hearing the Emanuel appeal of the Illinois Appellate Court's decision to remove him from the mayoral ballot, given her husband's support of Gery Chico. Referencing the legendary Myra Bradwell (Illinois' first female lawyer and a symbol for suffragettes), Burke said:

"Aren't we beyond that? Women have minds of their own. We have spouses in every kind of business."

And you know what? Good for her for saying that. Burke also told Kapos that she and her fellow Supreme Court judges expected the residency challenges to Emanuel's candidacy to wind up in front of them.
