Last-Minute Plans: "Get Off the Couch" Music Showcase at Villains

If you've ever gone to a songwriters showcase in Nashville, you know that they can be a m…lange of informal jam session, coffee klatch, storytelling night and amateur comedy showcase, with the slightest possibility that you might just hear a future hit performed bare bones by the songwriter.

That's the whole vibe the producers of the monthly "Get Off the Couch" series at Villains are shooting for. It's essentially four musicians sharing original songs and shooting the shit sitting on a Victorian-style couch onstage. The headliners rotate; tonight Mekon/Pine Valley Cosmonaut/Waco Brother/gadabout Jon Langford does the honors. Joining Jonboy onstage will be WXRT Top Artist of 2010 Rachele Eve, host Sam Wahl (of Ian Faith & Hosting) and Cary Kanno. Last month we were told that Nicholas Tremulis was surprised to see his former bandmate Shawn Christopher cheering him on in front of the stage. Tremulis later brought Christopher onstage and proceeded to tear down the house. So the possibilities are endless here.
