2010_10_muti.jpg New Chicago Symphony Orchestra Music Director Riccardo Muti reportedly fainted during this afternoon's rehearsal and has been taken to the hospital. According to the CSO:

During the course of this morning’s Chicago Symphony Orchestra rehearsal, Maestro Muti fainted and was taken to the hospital. He is currently under a physician’s care. At this time, we do not have any further information about his condition.

This evening’s CSO concert will proceed; details about any program changes that may occur will be released as soon as they are available.

Tonight was to be the first concert of Muti's return to the CSO after the 69-year-old conductor's inaugural residency last fall was cut short by an illness later said to be exhaustion. We'll relay any new information as we get it.

UPDATE: CSO President Deborah Rutter has spoken with Muti and said he's stable and alert and talking. He's been treated for a laceration on his jaw that he suffered when he fell. He's still undergoing tests to determine the reason he fainted.
