When we were single, we hated this time of year. All those damn couples with their candy hearts, mushing up the place - gag. On the other hand, what better way to celebrate Valentine's day than to stop being single? There are a few events out there for the single man or woman looking for love, so buy your tickets now.

HUB51 is hosting a "Last Chance for Love" singles party on February 12. While we hope the name isn't taken literally, you might just find someone cute to dance with. $6 "love punch" cocktails will be poured, and SUB51 will be serving half-priced bottles of bubbly. Plus, if you get lucky, you can come back in the morning with your date for 20% off brunch until 2PM. Be sure to grab a HUB51 heart tattoo for the discount.

One of our favorite organizations, Nerds at Heart, is hosting a series of Valentine's Day events for Chicago's geeky singles. Chicagoist writers are a pretty nerdy bunch - you might even find some of us at these parties. There are separate parties for straight love-seekers, gay boys and lesbian ladies, and there is a slight discount if you buy tickets in advance. Each ticket ($20 or $25) includes a speed dating-type event and a cocktail.

DMK Burger Bar is throwing a "Lost Lovers Hook Up Party." This party might be a good deal even if you aren't single - for $50, enjoy unlimited beer, burgers and fries from 7:30 till midnight. Enjoy "lusty movies" and "broken hearts tunes" and dance the night away. The real question - will you be able to take your attention off of the french fries long enough to flirt?
