So How Cold Was It Today?

It's not a rhetorical question. According to the official recordings at O'Hare, today's low of minus-9 degrees was the lowest temperature in Chicago since January 16, 2009's minus-18. Like Patrick Swayze said in Road House, "It'll get worse before it gets better." And the temperature is going to dip below zero again tonight.
The worst, for now, is past. The temperatures are expected to increase over the upcoming week to the point that Skilling, Baskerville, Taft, et al. are predicting temperatures in the balmy 40s next week. After a few days of walking around in ankle deep dirty melting snow, some of you may be wishing for this weather back. That was what I told Brock Keeling, my counterpart at SFist, when he sent me the above photo, in a good-natured attempt to rub it in. That's all good, Brock. One of the coldest winters I ever experienced was a springtime in Frisco.
