Early Voting Ends Today

2011_2_17_boardofelections_logo.jpg A reminder: if you plan on voting early for next week's election, the deadline for early voting is 5 p.m. today. If you can't reach any of the 51 sites throughout the city that are open for early voters, you have to wait until Tuesday.

With next week's mayoral election being the first in nearly a generation that isn't Richard Daley and a handful of sacrificial lambs, early voting numbers are up versus the previous mayoral election. Despite the recent blizzard, nearly 15,000 early voters have cast ballots as of Tuesday, compared to 5,600 in 2007. But back then, early voting was in its nascent stages and, with Daley running unopposed, for all intents, the overall percentage of registered voters that went to the polls was low.
