Here's an unusual tidbit about one of the newer members of the Smashing Pumpkins. According to master Billy himself, Nicole Fiorentino, the current bass player in the latest iteration of the band, is one of the two girls on the cover photograph of the group's epic shoegaze-gone-arena-rock masterpiece Siamese Dream.

Apparently, Fiorentino kept the news to herself because she thought if she disclosed it, she wouldn't be allowed in the band. How sad! Fiorentino should know that Corgan doesn't refuse people to be in the band. He just eventually plays all their parts for them. ZING! Veal, tipped waitstaff, presence established for a specific duration of time, etc.

In honor of this remarkable news, check out a video of an old Pumpkins classic:

Update: Rolling Stone has an update that echoes commenter slickpoetry's notions.

Behold:

An assistant to the cover photographer Melodie McDaniel says he's pretty sure the photo was shot specifically for the cover. Fiorentino was around 14 years old when the picture was taken, but both girls appear to be around seven years old. It's quite possible that Corgan noticed how similar Fiorentino looked to one of the girls on the cover and decided to pull a Twitter prank.

If you look at the photo comparison Rolling Stone put together, the similarity's remarkable, even uncanny. But more and more it looks like Corgan's having fun at our expense. Curse you, Corgan!
