Dark Lord Day 2K11: No Ticket, No Entry.

It looks like Three Floyds is taking the crowds and insanity regarding Dark Lord Day seriously this year. For the first time since implementing the ticket system in 2009, the golden tickets will now be required not only to buy the highly coveted Russian Imperial Stout, but to attend the fest.

Three Floyds said the decision was not made lightly. On the Dark Lord Day Website, they write, "Regrettably, changes have to be made to ensure the longevity of the event, safety and shorter lines. Without the ticket, there will be no admission to the premises." Long lines for the beer is but one of the many criticisms we've had regarding Dark Lord Day over the years. this change in the ticket policy, though necessary, will likely not go over well for folks who come for the party the event has become in recent years.

We're also curious to see how the new ticket policy will affect the business of scalping Dark Lord Day tickets. In the first two years of the plan, the secondary market created by the limited tickets was almost as lucrative, and the demand as insane, as for the beer. With the tickets now needed to gain entry as well as purchase the beer, will ticket holders cling tightly to them? Or try to sell them for an even higher cost than they were selling in previous years?

Dark Lord Day takes place on April 30. Tickets are expected to go on sale March 17.
