Pump Room Powers Down

It's the end of an era in Chicago, and it went out one chair and hair dryer at a time. They've sold everything that wasn't nailed down at the Pump Room in the Gold Coast's Ambassador Hotel, and some stuff that was - paneling from the legendary restaurant and lounge has been sold, as well as the bar and almost everything else. We stopped by to see what we could pick up for cheap (2 champagne flutes, $5 a piece) and to grab some photos of the room that helped define Chicago nightlife for decades.
The sale completed yesterday, and when we were there earlier this week they were down to wall art, a couple pieces of furniture, some chairs and a lot of dishes. If you've ever wanted a ramekin or coffee saucer for a few bucks, your chances are gone.
