A report from TSN Saturday morning stated that the Blackhawks and defenseman Brent Seabrook were on the verge of finalizing a five-year contract extension for around $30 million.
Seabrook would have been a restricted free-agent at the end of the season and is currently making $3.5 million. He has 4 goals, 29 assists, and a plus-2 rating this season.
Back on Feb. 11, Blackhawks general manager Stan Bowman said, “My job is to get (Seabrook) signed. It’s his job to play hockey and he’s done that well.”
The Blackhawks are the only team Seabrook has played for in his last six NHL seasons.
Bowman spoke to reporters Saturday saying, “It’s not completely done yet, but we’re getting close and we’re very optimistic we’ll get it done.”
Boynton waives goodbye to Blackhawks
Defenseman Nick Boynton was placed on waivers by the Blackhawks on Friday and picked up by the Philadelphia Flyers Saturday.
The 32-year-old has played in 41 games this season with a goal and seven assists. He has been a healthy scratch since Feb. 7.
In a statement released by the Flyers Boynton said, “I could’nt be happier. I was a little shocked and didn’t realize that I was put on waivers until late last night, but I couldn’t ask to be coming to a better team or organization. I’ve been around the league for awhile and I hope to bring that experience, try to work hard and play solid defense and chip in with whatever the team needs.”
