Last Minute Plans: Chicago Cycle Swap

2011_2_ChiCycleSwap.jpg Now that the snow drifts have all but melted from bike lanes and paths around the city, spring cycling in Chicago is only a few weeks away (fingers crossed), but you can pick up a new ride this weekend at the Active Transportaton Alliance's Chicago Cycle Swap.

Bike shops, builders as well as a few bike-related non-profits from around the city will be offering their bikes and bike-related goods for sale or swap until this evening at the Pulaski Park Field House. Groups like Chicago Bike Winter, Ride of Silence and Chicago Cycling Club will be on hand providing information ranging from bicycling advocacy and safety to maintenance tips and group rides.

Throughout the day, demos and info sessions will also cove biking events and bike culture including velodrome racing, BMX biking and bike dancing, with the full list of presentations at this link.

If you plan to stay until closing time to catch every demo and info session, Goose Island will be selling food and drinks.

You can still get admission half off with a voucher, or take advantage of the deal that includes a year-long Active Trans Alliance membership and a Chicago Bike Map with admission for $20. Proceeds from the event benefit the Active Transportation Alliance and Chicago Bike Winter

The Chicago Cycle Swap is today from 10 a.m. to 5 pm. at the Pulaski Park Fieldhouse, located at 1419 W. Blackhawk, admission is $10, or $5 with the above linked voucher
