Among the honorable mentions for our highly anticipated 2011 local records list was ambitious garage rockers Vee Dee. Citing a post from label Boulevard Records, we said they'd drop their new record at the end of February. Well, February has come and gone, and there's no Vee Dee. (So to speak.) What gives?

Maybe it was a soft date to begin with. But we're sure glad to see a post on the group's Facebook page that announces March 29, 2011 as the date for their self-titled set on Boulevard. Their last record was 2009's double-sided mind-melter Public Mental Health System, a set that was easily one of that year's best. We're psyched to see a release date come to fruition. Examine yourself for Vee Dee by checking out the video below:

But suppose you like your freak-outs to be a little more ethereal in nature. No problem. Local quartet Implodes lands more on the ambient shoegazer side of the equation. We've been fans for a while, especially since they dropped their Plustapes debut a couple years back. Now they're set to release an all new full-length on us.

With a single image (the album cover, we assume) and a cryptic blog post with 4/20/11 as its subject head, Implodes announced their debut on Kranky records. (Home of Implodes main man Ken Camden).

When we fall asleep listening to Implodes, we have visions of fuzz pedals dancing in our heads. We can't wait to see how this one compares to their last work. Again, another video to psych yourself up.

With Implodes and White Mystery releasing albums on the same day, 4/20 will be quite the celebration. (Why are you looking at us all askance?)
