Rahm, Sinker Meet

By Chuck Sudo in News on Mar 3, 2011 4:13PM

This meeting of the minds captured by the ever-observant Daniel X. O'Neil.

Mayor-elect Emanuel and Dan Sinker, author of the "@MayorEmanuel" twitter feed, finally had their face-to-face yesterday on WLS-AM's afternoon drive show with Roe Conn and Richard Roeper. In the process, Emanuel made good on his promise to donate $5,000 to the charity of Sinker's choice, Young Chicago Authors. Causes matched Emanuel's donation, while Conn and Roeper each contributed $1,000 each. Not a bad day for one of Sinker's favored charities.

Emanuel admitted to the hosts that he was shocked by how well Sinker captured what he called his "old voice."

“A number of people e-mailed or called and said, ‘You’ve gotta be — What are you doing?’ and I said, ‘What do you mean what are you doing?’ It was friends who had actually heard me a few times [and took it] seriously or thought it was close enough to my old voice, not my new voice,” Emanuel said. “I made a commitment [to donate] because many times he has expressed my sentiments exactly.”

That quote only served as more meat to chew on for WBEZ's Jim DeRogatis, who's been very vocal in his criticisms of the "@MayorEmanuel" feed after Sinker was outed. DeRogatis live-tweeted the Emanuel-Sinker summit and doubled down on some of his criticisms.
