Weekend Dance Party: Claychella 5 At Lincoln Hall

By Jake Guidry in Arts & Entertainment on Mar 4, 2011 6:40PM

claychella_small.jpg It's that time of year again: Claychella, the locally-focused DJ festival run by photographer Clayton Hauck, returns for its fifth and, sadly, final year. Hauck, who retired from nightlife photography just a few months ago, says he'll "still be around town, just not throwing events." He's going out with a bang, though. While the lineup shows many similarities to last year's, it nonetheless boasts some of the city's best, including The Hood Internet, Autobot (Flosstradamus), Only Children, Zebo and Kid Color. It is - duh - our Weekend Dance Party pick.

The fifth and final Claychella will hold true to its form: a 14+ hour onslaught of a highly varied collection of tunes from an eclectic list of performers. From top to bottom you'll hear just about everything, including selections from current and former Chicagoisters, Tankboy and Veronica Murtagh (Casual V/Cream Team). Better yet, this monster event is free until 10 p.m.

We'll surely miss Hauck's prominence in Chicago's nightlife scene, but we wish him the best of luck as he pursues different avenues of photography.

Claychella 5, Saturday, Lincoln Hall, 2424 N. Lincoln Ave., 12 p.m, Free until 10 p.m. and $5 after that for 21+, free until 5 p.m. and $10 after that for 18+
