Last April, Shawn Rosenblatt of solo psychedelic pop act Netherfriends gave up his day job and Chicago apartment and set off on the "50 Songs 50 States" tour, a year-long project with the objective of writing and recording one song in every state. He’s been trekking the U.S. since, staying with friends and fans and letting each new environment influence his songwriting process. Well, it’s been nearly a year now, and with the tour nearing a conclusion, Netherfriends is preparing to drop the first recording from the project, Angry East Coast.

Set for release April 12, Angry East Coast is a 3-track EP consisting of songs made in and titled after Philadelphia, PA, Washington D.C., and Rehoboth Beach, DE. The EP’s opening track, “Philadelphia, PA,” is available for your listening pleasure right now over at Cellar Hits’ Bandcamp page. It’s a shifting, fluid track that opens with an ambient, shimmering soundscape, turns into a charming pop melody sprinkled with whistling and ethereal oohing and aahing, and then returns again to ambient whirring.

The EP will be released in the form of a 7” vinyl packaged in an 8-page zine composed of diaries and photographs from the tour. It comes with a digital download, which features extended mixes of “Washington D.C.” and “Rehoboth Beach, DE.” You can pre-order the album through Cellar Hits' official site, which will enter you in a drawing to win an exclusive test-pressing of the vinyl.
