The Chicago Urban Art Society's 14th Annual Bike Winter Art Show opening reception starts at 6 p.m. this evening. For this exhibition, over 50 artists were selected from an open call. One of the artists we're really looking forward to checking out is Maria Scileppi. Scileppi uses GPS technology, data visualization and participants to create video an print "group paintings." For this exhibit, Scileppi gave 30 bike messengers GPS trackers to wear for a day. She then took the data from the trackers to form what she calls "living brushstrokes" to give viewers of her work an idea of the daily grind of a bike messenger.

The event is sponsored by Rapid Transit Cycle Shop (and if you haven't checked out their swank new University Village shop, do so) and Chicago Critical Mass. the Chicago Freak Bike rat patrol cyclists will also be in attendance with their Frankenbikes.
