Pfleger Wants to Stay at St. Sabina

Rev. Michael Pfleger took to his (bully) pulpit at St. Sabina to express his wishes to the congregation that he wished to stay at the Auburn-Gresham church he's shepherded for the past 30 years. "My life is in God’s hands. What happens at St. Sabina’s is in God’s hands," he said.
Actually, the decision rests with Cardinal Francis George, for now. Previous reports indicate the leader of Chicago's Catholic church wants Pfleger to take over the struggling Leo High School. As reader Chicago D noted, pastors in Chicago's catholic churches are reviewed every five years and may receive a one-time extension at a particular parish. Pfleger's tenure at St.Sabina, thus, has been nothing short of extraordinary for its length.
Pfleger once again told his laity yesterday that he did send a response to George, but that it would inappropriate to play it out in the media comment further on the subject without a response from George. As for St. Sabina's congregation, they fear the possible move to Leo would keep them from following Pfleger to another parish, which will only reinforce the suspicions of some that Pfleger has cultivated a powerful cult of personality during his three decades at St. Sabina.
