2011_3_22_illinois_logo.jpg A proposal for a tuition increase at the University of Illinois is on the agenda at this morning's meeting of the University's Board of Trustees. The Board is looking at raising tuition 6.9 percent for the incoming freshman class. Last year, the Board raised tuition 9.5 percent and state law requires tuition to remain the same for an incoming class for four years.

The Board of Trustees has indicated that the tuition increase, if approved, would be closely tied to inflation, but be relatively minor in terms of flat dollars. The proposed increased for undergraduates would go from $5,193 to $5,552. Incoming engineering students would see their tuition rise from $7,557 to $7,964 a semester. The full rate proposal can be read here.
