  • Are you a fan of food celeb Guy Fieri? If you love him enough to drive out to Hammond and go into a casino, this event is perfect for you. Fieri is hosting a combination cooking demo, book signing, speech, and anything else he can think of, with "the fun of a variety revue." Frankly, we're a bit frightened. But, if you're into Fieri, or want his new book "Guy Fieri Food," which comes out on May 3rd, this will be perfect. Fieri will be at The Venue at Horseshoe Casino on May 28th at 7:30 p.m. Tickets for the event start at $40.

  • Tonight's installment of The Empty Bottle's monthly music series Music.Friendly.Dancing features the titans of spazz-metal, Lightning Bolt. Wearing masks, presumably to escape harm should the sounds the twist and torture can't double back and recognize them, this duo creates a thicket of noise that is tortuously convoluted and simply punishing. We know there's sound structure buried somewhere within their compositions, but we're damned if we can find it, but the results are enough to (physically) knock us off our feet.. If this sounds like your thing, RSVP for free admission to tonight's show! (1035 N. Western Ave.)

  • Local author (and one-time Chicagoist podcast series subject) Jonathan Eig's acclaimed book Get Capone is set to be released in paperback. Eig will be hosting a release party for the paperback on April 13 from 7-9 p.m. at Hamburger Mary's (5400 N. Clark St.). The event is free and copies of Get Capone will be available for purchase.

  • Thursday marks the return of the alt-comedy showcase The People Under the Stares after a four-year hiatus. Comedians Neil Hamburger, Todd Barry and special Guest Brendon Walsh will bring the laughs for two shows at 7 and 10 p.m. to Hideout (1354 W. Wabansia). Tickets are $20.
