  • On April 16th, Mindful Metropolis is hosting the Green Metropolis Fair at the Irish-American Heritage Center (4626 N. Knox Ave.). The fair will introduce visitors to vendors and businesses that can “help them create and maintain a sustainable lifestyle and home.” The event will offer interactive activities, a play area for children, screenings of “Dirt! The Movie” and “Vanishing of the Bees” and organic, local food will be available for purchase. Admission is free, though a donation of a non-perishable food item is requested.

  • Local H’s old label Island Records is releasing a greatest hits of sorts, culling song’s from the band’s tenure there for the latest installment of the ICON series today. It includes a few rarer tracks from the band’s history, including a cover of GVB’s “Smothered In Hugs” we honestly didn’t know existed that the band did for the Slingblade soundtrack, alongside the better known tunes like “Bound For The Floor” and “All The Kids Are Right.” The band’s The Singles Tour: All the Hits All Night comes to The Metro on May 1.

  • The Hungry Brain (2319 W. Belmont) is the setting for THE2NDHAND's "variety show for literate apes," Chicago Nerves of Steel, tonight at 8:30. Promising to take local literature to new levels, tonight's featured performers include Bitches Gotta Eat blogger Samantha Irby; poet Josh Corey; comedian Carter Edwards; and novelist Davis Schneiderman. Musical guests include Katie Jo Knaub and Chicagoist favorites Save the Clocktower.

  • Tuesday means $2 burgers at the Beer Bistro (1061 W. Madison). Can't beat that with a hot iron.
