Afternoon Box Score: Sox Go Extras to Beat Royals

By Chuck Sudo in News on Apr 6, 2011 10:00PM

We thought this game was going to continue into the night, but the White Sox scored three times in the their half of the 12th inning to defeat the Kansas City Royals 10-7. Carlos Quentin continued to swing a hot bat, with home run and three RBI. Ramon Castro also homered for the Sox. But the bullpen issues need to be addressed. Matt Thornton was spotted a one-run lead in the ninth and blew a save opportunity, and Will Ohman — pronounced "omen" as in, "this is a bad omen that Ohman is in the game" — also gave up an (unearned) run. Chris Sale picked up the win with two innings of relief work. The White Sox now return to U.S. Cellular Field for their home opener against Tampa.
