Weekend Dance Party: Chicago At-Large

By Jake Guidry in Arts & Entertainment on Apr 8, 2011 7:40PM

2011_holyghost.jpg The city's got plenty to choose from this weekend when it comes to getting down: tonight The Mid will host Green Velvet and Derrick Carter; Debonair and Smart Bar will host after-show sets from Cut Copy and Holy Ghost!, respectively; Beauty Bar's got bass extraordinaire LOL Boys in town from Montreal; and for a little outside-the-box fun, Daedalus is set to bring his mindbending sequenced electronic music to Bottom Lounge tomorrow night. If we could, we'd do all of it. But hey, we can't. Our if-we-had-to pick for Weekend Dance Party? Holy Ghost!

While you truly can't go wrong with any of the aforementioned shows this weekend, Holy Ghost! wins out by virtue of its host venue. Smart Bar is still the best spot in the city to catch DJs, so in a dead heat, it's hard for us not to choose the place where the sound (not to mention the crowd) will be most pleasant. And if Dollar Disco has taught us anything, it's that disco sounds oh-so-spectacular on Smart Bar's system. Holy Ghost! will be joined by Mister Joshua and Chicagoist Mix Alum, Zebo, whom will provide your appropriate disco backdrop for the night.

Holy Ghost! DJ set, tonight, Smart Bar, 3730 N Clark, 10p.m., $10+ tickets ($7 with Cut Copy wristband from The Riv), 21+
