White Sox 7, Tampa Bay 9
The Tampa Bay Rays dropped their first six games and looked like they were on their way to losing their seventh Friday night. But the Rays rallied for their first win of the season, beating the White Sox 9-7.
Gordon Beckham and Mark Teahen each had three hits and a home run. Alexei Ramirez also had a home run but Matt Thornton blew his second save with help from some bad fielding behind him, denying John Danks his first win. Danks allowed 4 runs and 6 hits, walking 4 and left leading 5-3 after the Rays loaded the bases with no outs in the seventh.
The White Sox will continue their series with Tampa bay Saturday.
Cubs 7, Brewers 4
With a slightly beat up pitching rotation, the Cubs pulled out a 7-4 win over the Brewers with Carlos Zambrano on the mound. Zambrano continued his dominance at Miller Park after going 6 innings, giving up 4 runs, 7 hits, and 3 walks, striking out 5.
The Cubs offense was key (and will be after losing pitchers Randy Wells and Andrew Cashner for a couple of weeks). Jeff Baker had 4 hits and drove in 4 runs, hitting his first home run of the season. Geovany Soto also hit a home run in the Cubs' five-run fourth inning.
The Cubs recalled Jeff Stevens from Triple-A Iowa after sending two from their rotation to the DL. Right-hander Casey Coleman will pitch Sunday and left-hander James Russell will start Tuesday in Houston after the Cubs finish up their series in Milwaukee Saturday and Sunday.
