Afternoon Box Score: Konerko, Floyd Power Sox, Brewers Edge Cubs

We expected an 83-degree day to be ideal long ball weather and we were correct as soon as we heard the fireworks in the distance in the bottom of the first inning. Paul Konerko homered twice, including one of the two solo shots in the first, and Gavin Floyd gave besieged bullpen a breather with eight innings of one-run ball in the White Sox' 6-1 win over Tampa Bay. Floyd gave up four hits and an unearned run over to earn his first win of the season.
The Cubs, meanwhile, were burned by taters in their 6-5 loss in Milwaukee. Casey Coleman, starting in place of Andrew Cashman, went five innings, giving up four runs on two-run shots by Prince Fielder and Ryan Braun. But the Cubs maintained a 5-4 lead going into the eighth inning when Kerry Wood served up the game-winning two-run pinch hit homer to Case McGehee to earn the loss. Aramis Ramirez was hot at the plate for the Cubs, going 3-for-5 with a double and three RBI.
