STRFKR (also better known as the less-SFW Starfucker) spin out engaging electropop that isn't at all as menacing or sleazy as their name would imply. The group is primarily an outlet for frontman Josh Hodges to work out intelligent boogie and craft songs that gently jumble and tumble across the dancefloor. It's sugary stuff, to be sure, but amidst the gently surging disco is a sense of darkness. This is partially accomplished through Hodges' low-key yet sadly pleasant vocals, but there's also a whole bunch of minor keys getting tossed around. This means Hodges' tunes have much in common with the introspective indie rock his home of Portland is known for producing, but he's certainly skilled at draping them in winning synths and undeniable hooks.

Snag a sample of STRFKR's sound below, and if you like that you can grab our personal favorite track off their latest album Reptilians. It's called "Bury Us Alive" and it's available here for the price of your email address. If you like THAT then you'll probably dig the band's show at Lincoln Hall tonight.
